Titanium Alloys’Processing Methods
Submitted by admin on 02/10/2014
Titanium alloys are featured by low modulus of elasticity and large elastic deformation in the cutting process. These characteristics make titanium alloys’ processing very difficult, which leads to low working efficiency and large tool consumption.
So as for titanium alloys’ cutting operation, the followings are some universal principles:
According to titanium alloys’ characteristics and features in the cutting process, manufacturers need consider the following aspects:
Manufacturers should use carbide tool as far as possible, such as tungsten cobalt hard alloy and titanium alloy tool with small chemical affinity, good thermal conductivity and higher intensity.
The edge of knife need to be kept sharp to ensure smooth chip removal. The speed of cutting should be slow in order to avoid producing too high cutting temperature. The cutting depth can be deeper, so point of knife can work under hardened layer, which will enhance the endurance of tools.
When processing, manufacturers need add cooling liquid to fully cool down titanium alloys.
The above are universal principles of titanium alloys’ processing. In fact, there are different highlights and emphasis for varied titanium alloys’ processing methods under different situations.
