The role of titanium tube in seawater purification

Main characteristics of titanium tube used in seawater desalination:

1. Small density of  titanium tube: high specific strength (strength / specific gravity): the density of the metal titanium is 4.51g/cm3, which is higher than the aluminum and lower than the steel, copper, nickel. But the specific strength is ranked the first within the metal, is 3 times of the stainless steel, 1.3 times of aluminum alloy.

2. Good corrosion resistance of  titanium tube: titanium is a very active metal, its equilibrium potential is very low, the tendency of the thermodynamics in the medium is large. But in fact, titanium is very stable in many media, for example titanium is corrosion-resistant in the oxidation, neutral and weak reduction media and other media. This is because titanium and oxygen have a great affinity, in the air or oxygen containing medium, the surface of titanium can produce dense, strong adhesion and large inert oxide film to protect the titanium matrix from being corroded. Even as a result of mechanical wear and tear, it will be soon self-healing or regeneration. This shows that titanium is a strongly passive metal. The dielectric temperature is below 315℃, and the oxide film of titanium is always kept in this characteristic.

3. Good heat transferring performance of  titanium tube: Although the thermal conductivity of metal titanium is lower than that of carbon steel and copper, but the wall thickness can be greatly reduced due to the excellent corrosion resistance of titanium. The heat transferring mode of the surface and the steam is the drop shape, which can reduce the heat group, and the titanium surface can reduce the heat resistance, so that the heat transferring performance of the titanium can be improved significantly.
