The application of titanium tube in aerospace

Titanium tube is mainly used in the production of aircraft engine and compressor’s parts, then used in the production of structure parts of rocket, missile and high-speed aircraft. In the middle of 1960s, titanium and titanium alloys have been applied in the general industry and it was mainly used in the production of electrolytic industrial electrodes, the condenser of power station, the heater of oil refining and sea desalination and environmental pollution control devices, etc. Titanium and its alloys have become a kind of corrosion resistant structural materials. It is also used in the production of hydrogen storage materials and shaped memory alloys.
 
Titanium tube has high strength and low density, good mechanical properties and good toughness and corrosion resistance. In addition, the process performance of titanium tube is poor and it is difficult to machining, in the thermal processing, it is easy to absorb impurities such as carbon hydrogen nitrogen. What’s more it also has poor wear resistance and complex production process. The industrial production of titanium began in 1948. The development of aviation industry makes the titanium industry develop at the rate of 8% per every. At present, the annual output of titanium tubes in the world has reached 4 tons, and the grade of titanium tube is nearly 30. The most widely-used titanium tube is Ti-6Al-4V (TC4), Ti-5Al-2.5Sn (TA7) and industrial pure titanium (TA2, TA3 and TA1).
